The first screen

Drawing fluid for the first screen

My original design, mounted onto a sheet of print paper was placed under the transparent screen. Every place I wanted to have any color in the print was painted onto the screen with screen drawing fluid. This blue fluid can be painted on with a watercolor brush. I used a ruling pen and a straight edge for the very straight lines. I often outline the shapes with a pen before filling them in with the brush.

I made a screen filler stencil, washed out the drawing fluid and let the screen dry. My print paper had been cut and the registration was in place before I started to paint the drawing fluid.

The first color that I printed is under all the remaining colors.
It is a very light yellow. In the final print it is the shadows
and the line work on the flowers and the edges of the print as well as the highlights on the vase
and the detail on the flowers in the lower border.

First screen printed

This print will be made with a combination
of Future floor finish stencils and screen filler stencils.

In  some of the steps  it will be a reduction print.

You can find more explicate directions for each step on
my manual on my website.

After printing the edition with the first color, I made a floor finish stencil for the yellow centers of the flowers.
This is because I can easily remove the floor finish stencil
with ammonia and not ruin the screen filler stencil.

After that, I made a screen filler reduction stencil for a darker yellow.
