THE PRINT

OUR WINTER GARDEN
I became so intrigued by this image after printing my Christmas cards that I decided to make it into a print - but this time I would show more of the scene. I love the look of the snow covered roofs on the houses on the next street and the remains of last summer's flowers in the foreground.

I went back to my original photograph and edited it with Photoshop Elements. I increased the contrast and used "poster edges". I re-sized the image and printed another transparency. Then as I still had some photo emulsion in my frig, I made another photo screen. This link will take you to "My Manual" for directions. This time I made it on a screen that was hinged onto a screen bed and I made sure that I had an another hinged screen that I could use on the same printing bed. You can go back to my post of Aug. 20 for more about making the photo screen with links to the supplies.

FIRST SCREEN PRINTED
After making the photographic screen and letting it dry, I pasted a sheet of white paper onto the screen bed and printed my photo silk screen onto it. The paper was positioned so that every part of the image would print on the paper and the print paper would be offset from the register guides. The photo screen is transparent, so it is easy to slip a sheet of print paper underneath and see where the print will be. Three pieces of cardboard were glued down and taped in place at one corner at the top of the longer side of the print paper. The print paper would butt up to these guides every time I printed a different sheet of paper

This print would be the guide for the remaining colors that I wanted to print.
